뭐? 왜? 누구랑?

Brandon: This guy I know from church said only Jesus saves. He said Jesus is God. So, I told him that he’s stupid because God is God and Jesus is the Son of God.
교회에서 알게 된 친구가 예수님만 구원을 줄 수 있대. 걔가 예수님이 하느님이라는 거야. 그래서 내가 하느님은 하느님이고 예수님은 하느님의 아들이라고, 그 자식한테 멍청하다고 그랬거든.

I: (Sigh) I knew this day would come.
(한숨) 이런 날이 올 줄 알았지.

Brandon: I’m gonna tell him about Jeung San Do and gaebyeok. And I need to tell him that Sangjenim came to save us and not Jesus.
증산도랑 개벽에 대해 얘기해 줄 거야. 그리고 예수님이 아니라 상제님이 우리를 구원하러 오셨다고 얘기해 줘야겠어.

Brandon: Can you tell me about Jeung San Do’s viewpoint on salvation so I can crush him next time if he wants to fight again? What’s unique about Jeung San Do’s Salvation?
증산도 구원론의 관점에 대해 말해줄 수 있어? 다음에 또 싸움 걸어오면 아주 뭉개버리게. 증산도 구원관의 특징은 뭐야?

I: In most other religions, God saves humanity. Humans are just portrayed as passive beings who must seek mercy from God. But Sangjenim designed His work in a way that those who follow His teachings will save humanity at the time of gaebyeok.
대부분의 다른 종교들은 신이 인간을 구원하거든. 인간은 신의 자비를 구해야만 하는 피동적인 존재로 그려지지. 하지만 상제님은 상제님의 진리를 따르는 사람들이 개벽기에 인류를 구원하도록 공사를 설계하셨어.

Brandon: I know. That’s why He gave us the Taeeulju Mantra. The Taeeulju mantra is the sacred remedy for saving people during the time of gaebyeok.
나도 알어. 그래서 상제님께서 우리한테 태을주를 내려주신 거잖아. 태을주가 개벽기에 쓸 구원의 성약이고.

I: That’s right. We will be saving people from the mysterious disease with the spiritual authority of the Taeeulju Mantra and the uitong. That means we'll truly become majestic humans of the cosmic autumn.
그래. 우리 도생들이 태을주와 의통의 신권을 써서 개벽기에 인류를 병겁으로부터 구원하게 될 거야. 진정으로 가을 우주의 인존이 되는 거지.

Brandon: What is a majestic human?
인존이 뭐야?

I: A majestic human being performs the Work of Heaven and Earth in place of Heaven and Earth. It’s an ideal form of human being. The time when humans are more precious and noble than Heaven and Earth is coming, Brandon. You know the cosmic seasons, right?
인존은 천지를 대신해서 천지의 일을 하는 인간을 뜻해. 이상적인 인간이라고 할 수 있지. 인간이 천지보다 더 고귀하게 되는 때가 오고 있어, 브랜든. 우주 일 년은 너도 알고 있지?

Brandon: Uh huh.

I: Cosmic spring is the Era of Heaven’s Majesty when heaven breathes life on earth. Cosmic summer is the Era of Earth’s Majesty when earth nurtures humans and all other forms of life. The approaching cosmic autumn is the Era of Humanity’s Majesty. Human beings will be capable of anything and everything.
곧 인간이 하늘땅보다도 더 존귀한 존재가 되는 때가 올 거야. 우주의 봄 시대는 땅 위에 하늘이 생명력을 불어넣는 천존(天尊)시대이고, 우주의 여름은 땅이 인간과 만물을 기르는 지존(地尊)시대야. 앞으로 오는 우주의 가을은 인존(人尊)시대지. 인간은 모든 걸 할 수 있게 될 거야.

Brandon: But look at the wonders of the modern technology and cultures of mankind. Aren’t we already in the age of majestic human? There’s nothing that humans can’t do.
하지만 경이로울 정도로 발달된 과학기술과 문화를 봐. 이미 인존시대에 와 있는 거 아니야? 인간이 못 하는 일이 없잖아.

I: Sure, when we look at only the materialistic side of civilization, you’re right. But the spiritual level of humans is still immature.
그래. 문명의 물질적인 면만 보면 네 말이 맞아. 하지만 아직 인간의 영적 수준은 성숙하지 못했어.

Brandon: Interesting. I remember reading a verse in the Dojeon that states, “Sangjenim came to this world as a human at the approach of the Later Heaven Gaebyeok to bring to pass the Era of Humanity’s Majesty.” How is Sangjenim’s incarnation related to the opening the world of majestic human?
흥미롭다. 도전에서 “후천대개벽기를 맞아 인간으로 오시어 인존시대를 열어주신 상제님”이라는 구절을 읽었던 거 같거든. 상제님의 강세와 인존시대를 여는 것은 서로 어떤 관련이 있는 거야?

I: Yeah. You’ll get a better idea if you listen to Jongdosanim’s words. “The Era of Humanity’s Majesty, a time when human beings must transform into majestic beings and resolve all problems and limitations on their own, has arrived upon us. Human beings will overcome the gaebyeok on their own, build the ideal world by their own hands, and are to become the ones who enjoy the blessings for the years to come in the ideal world that they will have built themselves. The purpose of Sangjenim’s incarnation as a human being was to prove that humans are noble ones who will bring completion to the autumn culture of the Later Heaven.”
아, 그건 종도사님의 이 도훈말씀을 들으면 이해가 더 잘 될 거야.
“이제 인존시대, 인간 스스로 주체가 되어서 모든 문제를 끌러내는 시대가 온 것이다. 인간은 자기 힘으로 개벽을 넘고, 자기 손으로 이상세계를 세우고, 자기가 건설한 그 이상세계에서 세세토록 복락을 누리는 주인공이다. 인간이 존귀하다, 인간이 후천세상 가을 문화를 완성하는 주인공이다, 그런 사실을 보여주기 위해 상제님께서도 가을철을 맞아 인간의 몸을 입고 세상에 오신 것이다.”

Brandon: Wow, that’s really awesome. Human beings are destined to fulfill the dream of God and the ideals of Heaven and Earth! We humans are entrusted with this grand mission. No wonder Sangjenim came as a human being!
우와, 진짜 멋지다. 인간이 하나님의 꿈, 천지의 이상을 실현하는 운명을 타고났다! 우리 인간은 이 위대한 사명을 맡은 거야. 그래서 상제님께서도 인간으로 오셨던 거구나!

I: Yes. Sangjenim said “It is I who devise; it is you who shall accomplish.” Sangjenim transformed this world through His Work of Renewal only after He Himself became a noble human. Then He gave us the power to complete His work.
상제님께서는 “모사재천은 내가 하리니 성사재인은 너희들이 하라,”라고 하셨어. 상제님께서는 스스로 인존이 되신 뒤에 천지공사를 통해 이 세상을 탈바꿈시키셨지. 그리고 우리가 당신님의 일을 마무리할 수 있는 힘을 주신 거야.

Brandon: This word “majestic human,” makes me feel proud to be a human, but at the same time, I feel a sense of responsibility on my shoulders. But this can’t be all glitters. I mean, nothing in this world is for free, right? So what do I need to do to get there?
이 인존이라는 단어가 내가 인간이라는 데에 자부심을 주지만, 동시에 내 어깨에 책임감의 무게가 느껴진다. 그런데 이게 좋은 점만 있는 건 아닐 거야. 내 말은 세상에 공짜는 없잖아. 어떻게 하면 그렇게 될 수 있는 거야?

I: We have to chant the Taeeulju Mantra and convey the message of salvation to as many people as possible so that we can pass into the Later Heaven’s paradise and become true human beings.
후천 세상으로 넘어가서 참된 인간이 되려면 태을주를 많이 외우고 구원의 메시지를 최대한 많은 사람들에게 전해야지.

Brandon: Piece of cake! I’ll form my team of six in no time!

I: You can do it. And you must do it for Sangjenim and Taemonim. They were born into a poor family, had a difficult childhood, and experienced all the joys and sorrows of common people. I can’t count how many times I’ve felt so respectful and apologetic for Them while reading the Dojeon.
넌 할 수 있어. 그리고 상제님 태모님을 위해서 해야만 해. 상제님 태모님께서도 가난한 집안에 태어나셔서 어려운 유년기를 보내시고 인간의 모든 희로애락을 다 겪어 보셨잖아. 도전을 읽으면서 숙연해지고 죄송한 마음이 들었던 적이 한두 번이 아니야.
