1주의 말씀 : 세상은 상제님이 천지공사로 판 짜 놓으신 대로 둥글어간다

World affairs develop according to Sangjenim's Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth

For the past one hundred years, followers of Jeung-san Sangjenim have called the framework He made for a new culture Cheonjigongsa, “the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth.” But, I think few understand its content and the ideology behind it. ①The Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth is similar to a blueprint in architecture. A perfect blueprint illustrates the minutest detail, such as where to drive in a nail. ②In the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth, Sangjenim drafted a perfect blueprint for the new culture that will last throughout the 50,000 years of the Later Heaven. In other words, He made a plan for the present and the forthcoming world. He even attached a timetable and set milestones. Upon completing the work, Sangjenim proclaimed: “By redirecting the destiny of heaven and earth, I have firmly and seamlessly woven together &dosu&, and new turning points shall unfold as these &dosu& become fulfilled one after another.” (Dojeon 5:2380:3).

Sangjenim said that ③world affairs develop exactly according to what He arranged in the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth. Who in the world would deny what God decided upon?

세상은 상제님이 천지공사로 판 짜 놓으신 대로 둥글어간다

지난 백 년 동안, 상제님이 여시는 새로운 문화의 틀을 천지공사天地公事, 천지공사 하고 부르짖었는데, 나는 지금 이 시간까지도 그 천지공사의 진짜 내용이념을 잘 아는 우리 신도들이 별로 없다고 생각한다. 상제님 천지공사라 하는 것은, 건축으로 얘기하자면 집 짓는 설계도와 같다. 기막히게 잘된 설계도를 보면, 못 박는 구멍까지도 다 설계돼 있다. 그것과 마찬가지로, 상제님은 천지공사로 후천 오만년 둥글어갈 새 문화를 빈틈 하나 없이 설계해 놓으셨다. 알기 쉽게 얘기해서, 천지공사란 후천 오만년 새 문화의 틀이요, 현재와 미래, 앞으로 다가오는 새 세상의 설계도다. 상제님은 거기에다가 시간표, 이정표까지 달아 놓으신 것이다. 상제님이 그 설계도를 다 만들어 놓고 하신 말씀이 있다.

이제 하늘도 뜯어고치고 땅도 뜯어고쳐 물샐틈없이 도수를 굳게 짜 놓았으니 제 한도限度에 돌아 닿는 대로 새 기틀이 열리리라. (道典 5:416:1∼2)

상제님 말씀대로, 우리가 살고 있는 이 세상은 상제님이 천지공사로 판 짜 놓으신 그대로만 둥글어간다. 세상천지 그 누가 하나님이 결정해 놓으신 것을 부정하겠는가.

Sustenance and blessings shall be granted according to each person's meritorious deeds and virtue.

2주의 말씀 : 상제님께서 모든 신명을 불러 모아 신명정부를 건설하셨다

Sangjenim gathered all spirits and established a government of spirits

Sangjenim used historically significant human spirits as the basic material in the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth. Mostly He incorporated spirits with unresolved bitterness, spirits of failed revolutionaries, spirits that guard specific regions, and spirits that have contributed to the development of human civilization. ①Sangjenim gathered spirits that existed from the beginning of human history to the present and established a government of spirits. He ordered this spiritual government to judge impartially what was right and wrong, good and bad, crooked and straight, in the past world. On this basis He carried out the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth.

②Though He Himself had authority over the three realms of heaven, earth, and humanity, He never abused this power by being rash or tyrannical. Whenever He conducted a work of renewal, great or small, He would only adopt the unbiased decisions made by the spirits who had actually lived in the specific region and era. That is, He adopted what had been decided in the public hearing of the spirits, such as, “This should be settled this way, and cannot be made otherwise for this reason.” That is exactly what Sangjenim meant when He said, “It is not the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth if even the spirit of a dead fly bears a grudge against it.” (Dojeon 4:44:3).

In other words, the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth is the work in which Sangjenim decided all cases by the principle of history. ③He did this in a way most befitting the heavenly principle, earthly virtue, and human affairs, a way that was free from the grudge of even a dead fly, a way that was fair and impartial, hence perfect.

상제님께서 모든 신명을 불러 모아 신명정부를 건설하셨다

상제님 천지공사 보신 재료가 역사적인 신명들이다. 원신寃神과 역신逆神, 지방을 지키는 지방신과 인류의 문명 발달에 기여한 문명신 등 네 종류의 신명을 들 것 같으면 역사적인 신명들이 대략 다 간추려진다. 상제님은 인류역사가 비롯되면서부터 오늘날에 이르기까지, 역사 속에 실존했던 신명들을 모두 모아 신명정부를 건설하셨다. 상제님은 그 신명정부에 명하시어, 지나간 세상 옳고 그르고 잘하고 못하고 구부러지고 반듯한 것을 공의公議에 붙여 심판하게 하시고, 그걸 바탕으로 천지공사를 보셨다.

상제님이 아무리 천계天界 지계地界 인계人界, 삼계 대권을 가지셨다고 해도, 사리에 부당하게, 독재나 권위주의식으로 결정하신 것은 하나도 없다. 크고 작은 공사를 물론하고 공사 보실 때는, 반드시 그 시대를 산, 그 지방에서 생존한 실존적인 신명들의 공의, 즉 “이렇기 때문에 이건 이럴 수밖에 없습니다.” 하는 신명들의 공판에 의해 결정된 내용만을 공사에 적용시키신 것이다. “파리 죽은 귀신이라도 원망이 붙으면 천지공사가 아니다.”라고 하신 상제님 말씀이 그 말씀이다.

다시 얘기해서, 천리天理와 지의地義와 인사人事에 합리적인 최선의 방법, 파리 죽은 귀신의 원망도 붙지 않는, 아주 지공무사至公無私한, 그래서 물샐틈없이 완벽한, 꼭 그렇게 될 수밖에 없고 그럴 수밖에 없는 사실만 모아서, 역사적인 섭리에 의해 심판하신 것이 천지공사란 말이다.

상제님이 아무리 천계天界 지계地界 인계人界, 삼계 대권을 가지셨다고 해도, 사리에 부당하게, 독재나 권위주의식으로 결정하신 것은 하나도 없다.
Though Sangjenim had authority over the three realms of heaven, earth, and humanity, He never abused this power by being rash or tyrannical.
너는 몰라도 혼은 다 아느니라.

③ most befitting : 가장 적당한, 가장 알맞은
상제님께서는 천리天理와 지의地義와 인사人事에 합리적인 최선의 방법으로 천지공사를 행하셨다.
Sangjenim conducted the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth in a way most befitting the heavenly principle, earthly virtue, and human affairs.
벼슬아치는 직품에 따라 화권化權이 열릴 것이다.
Governing officials shall be granted the power of creation-transformation most befitting their stations.

3주의 말씀 : 삼계를 다스리시는 상제님

Sangjenim, God who rules all three realms

①No one except the genuine God could perform this work. Encompassing not just the earth but also the whole universe, Sangjenim carried out the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth. For example, Sangjenim said, “I now send all the spirits of failed revolutionaries to the constellations, which know no discrimination over right and wrong.” (Dojeon 4:28:6). By this He meant that He would send them to heaven, finding no other appropriate way to appease their severe bitterness and grief.

If the agent of the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth were not Sangjenim but merely the ruler of a nation, various troubles could arise, including rebellion. Accordingly, ②the agent of the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth could be no one but the lord of creation-transformation in the universe, the true and genuine God, the ruler with authority over the three realms.

The Korean word for “govern” or “rule” is &ju-jae&. The first syllable, ju, means “king,” “master” or “to assert,” and the second, &jae&, means “prime minister.” Jae can also mean “to tailor.” ③Just as a tailor uses a specific method to cut cloth, Sangjenim worked out a perfect plan for the Later Heaven’s world of immortality and creation-transformation.

삼계를 다스리시는 상제님

참하나님이 아니면 천지공사를 집행 못한다. 상제님은 지구촌뿐만 아니라 대우주 천체권 전부를 다 수용하고 함축해서 공사를 보셨다. 하나 예를 들면, “모든 역신逆神을 만물 가운데 시비是非가 없는 별자리로 붙여 보내느니라.”(道典 4:22:6)고 하신 상제님 말씀이 있다. 역신들의 원한은 너무 커서, 달리 풀어줄 방법이 없으니 천상으로 보내신다고 하신 것이다. 우리 상제님은 본래가 참하나님이시다.

만일 상제님이 아니고, 정치제도로 보아 한 나라 통치자 격인 위치에서 천지공사를 본다면, 반역자도 나올 수 있고 별스런 문제가 다 생길 수 있다. 따라서 천지공사를 집행하는 주체는 우주의 조화옹, 진짜 참하나님, 삼계 대권을 가진 주재자가 아니고는 안 된다.

늘 얘기하지만, 주재主宰라고 할 것 같으면 임금 주主 자, 주장할 주 자, 주인이라는 주 자에 재상 재宰 자다. 재상 재 자는 다른 말로 마르개질한다는 재 자다. 재단사가 그의 공법에 의해 옷을 마름질하듯, 상제님이 이 대우주 천체권 우주공간에 후천 오만 년 조화선경 세상을 여는, 아주 더도 덜도 없는 완벽한 설계를 해 놓으신 것이다.

천지공사를 집행하는 주체는 우주의 조화옹, 진짜 참하나님이 아니고는 안 된다.
The agent of the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth could be no one but the lord of creation-transformation in the universe, the true and genuine God.

상제님과 나의 사략史略을 편찬할 사람은 진묵밖에 없느니라. (태모님 말씀)
No one but Jin-muk can chronicle the history of Sangjenim and Myself.

③ just as : 꼭 ~처럼
재단사가 그의 공법에 의해 옷을 마름질하듯, 상제님이 이 대우주 천체권 우주공간에 후천 오만 년 조화선경 세상을 여는, 아주 더도 덜도 없는 완벽한 설계를 해 놓으신 것이다.
Just as a tailor uses a specific method to cut cloth, Sangjenim worked out a perfect plan for the Later Heaven’s world of immortality and creation-transformation.

눈에 동자가 있어야 보이듯이 살아 있어도 신명 없이는 못 댕긴다.
Just as you cannot see without pupils, you cannot move your body without spirits.

4주의 말씀 : 가을에는 새로운 열매문화가 나온다

In the time of cosmic autumn, new culture of fruition arise

It may be misleading to speak of what one gains or loses by practicing a particular religion, but generally religious cultures were far too remote from the culture of everyday human life. ①Whatever form it takes, the culture of belief and faith should suit the reality of people’s lives, regardless of the era, society, or ethnicity. A religious culture that fails to do so is only a burden to people.

As a Korean proverb says, “One must say what is right even with a crooked mouth.” One must criticize correctly, know correctly, and live righteously. Throughout human history, countless people lived and died suffering in those cultures. What else could they do when that was all they had in their world? ②The cultures of the Early Heaven could not be otherwise. Isn’t it true that fruit ripens only in autumn? Throughout human history in the time of cosmic spring and summer, it was impossible to create a culture of fruition.

Because they had nowhere else to look in such circumstances, multitudes of living spirits still hold on to such cultures. However, they cannot be blamed. They in fact want to have faith in something, but they don’t know what to believe in. That’s why they cannot be condemned. ③Existing cultures are products of history. It was process of history that made them what they are.

가을에는 새로운 열매문화가 나온다

신앙하는 데 득실을 따진다는 게 좀 어폐가 있지만, 기존 문화권이라는 것은 인간 생활문화와 너무너무 동떨어진 문화였다. 신앙문화라 하는 것은 어느 시대 어느 사회 어느 민족, 어떤 형태의 문화든지 간에, 반드시 인간 실생활에 합치되는 문화라야 한다. 가치관으로 봐서 인간 생활문화에 합치되지 않는 문화라 할 것 같으면, 그건 사람 사는 데 부담만 줄 뿐이다.

입은 삐뚤어졌어도 말은 바로 하라고, 사람은 바르게 평하고, 바르게 알고, 바르게 살아야 한다. 인류역사를 통해, 여러 천 년 수많은 사람들이 그 문화권 속에서 신음하다가 갔다. 허나 그 세상에는 그런 문화밖에 없으니 도리가 없지 않은가. 선천 과도기 문화는, 그렇게 될 수밖에 없었다. 열매는 가을에만 여무는 것 아닌가. 봄여름 세상을 지나온 과거 인류역사에서는 절대로 열매기 문화가 나올 수 없다.

그런 시대적 상황에서, 이 세상 수많은 생령生靈들이 갈 데가 없으니 지금까지 그 문화권에 매달려 있는 것이다. 그렇다고 그 신앙하는 사람들을 나무랄 것도 아니다. 사실이지 뭘 신앙하고 싶은데 잘 모르잖는가. 그러니 그 사람들을 죄악시할 수도 없다. 기존 문화권도 역사의 산물이다. 기존 문화의 역사 과정이라는 게 전부 그렇게 돼 있었다.

We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it.

우리는 환경의 산물이다.
We are products of our environment.
