Spirit Teaching: The Fount of Confucianism, Buddhism, Immortalism, and Christianity *Dojeon 1:6

1 Confucianism, Buddhism, Immortalism, and Christianity all originated from Spirit Teaching, but their individual regions and civilizations influenced them and hence caused them to diverge into separate paths.

2 At the approach of the autumn era of maturation and unity, Sangjenim incarnated into Joseon, the land in the direction of Gan, 3 thereby fulfilling the words of the sages of these teachings concerning the incarnation of the Lord of Heaven and Earth into this world.

유불선 삼교의 연원, 신교

1 본래 유(儒)·불(佛)·선(仙)·기독교(西仙)는 모두 신교에 연원을 두고 각기 지역과 문명에 따라 그 갈래가 나뉘었더니
2 이제 성숙과 통일의 가을시대를 맞아 상제님께서 간방 땅 조선에 강세하시매
3 이로써 일찍이 이들 성자들이 전한 천주 강세의 복음이 이루어지니라.

Spirit Teaching(Singyo) is the primordial form of spirituality, the ur-religion, that began at the dawn of human civilization. Spirit Teaching signifies ‘imparting the teachings of God,’ ‘teaching all matters based on the way of spirits,’ or ‘placing God as the center of all human edification.’
신교(神敎)는 창세 인류 문명과 함께 시작된 영성문화의 시원 형태이며 원형종교다. 신교는 ‘하느님의 가르침을 전한다’, ‘모든 일을 신도로써 가르친다’ 또는 ‘신을 모든 인간 교화의 중심에 둔다’는 뜻이다. (영어 『도전』 주석)

Jeung San Do consolidates ‘Confucianism, which is fundamentally about propriety,’ ‘Buddhism, which is fundamentally about the substance of all forms,’ and ‘Immortalism, which is fundamentally about creation-transformation,’ and subsequently bears the fruit seed of a single truth. It is the unified culture of fruition that consolidates politics, religion, economics, culture, society, and numerous other fields into one.
증산도는 유지범절(儒之凡節), 불지형체(佛之形體), 선지조화(仙之造化), 이것을 전부 다 뭉쳐서 하나의 진리권으로 알캥이를 맺은 것이다. 정치, 종교, 경제, 문화, 사회 등 각색 부문이 모두 하나로 합일된 열매문화이다. (태상종도사님 말씀)

The Coming of God the Father into the World *Dojeon 1:3

1 Jesus Christ proclaimed the existence of the Father in heaven as he suffered on the cross. He revealed to his apostles:

2 ... I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me.

3 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations … in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you....

4 Inspired by the Holy Spirit of the Father, John the Apostle wrote the Book of Revelation, which proclaimed the news of the Father on the great white throne and of the seven holy spirits who stand before the throne:

5 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

6 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.

7 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

8 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 9 saying, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”

10 God on the great white throne revealed to John, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End ... who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

11 These proclamations are heraldings of the advent of the Father Himself into the world, coming forth to end the old heaven and earth and usher in the new heaven and earth, to bring forth paradise on earth.

아버지 하나님의 지상 강세

1 일찍이 예수 그리스도는 하늘나라에 온 인류의 아버지가 계심을 십자가에 매달려 피 흘리며 부르짖었나니
2 그가 제자들에게 이르기를 “ 내가 스스로 온 것이 아니로다. 나를 보내신 이는 참이시니 너희는 그를 알지 못하나 나는 아노니 이는 내가 그에게 서 났고 그가 나를 보내셨음이니라.”하고
3 “그러므로 너희는 가서 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 내가 너희에게 명한 모든 것을 지키도록 가르치라.” 하니라.
4 또 아버지의 성령이 인도하신 대로 계시록을 쓴 사도 요한이 백보좌 하느님과 그 보좌 앞의 일곱 성령의 소식을 전하니
5 요한이 말하기를 “내가 새 하늘과 새 땅을 보니 처음 하늘과 처음 땅이 없어졌고 바다도 다시 있지 않더라.
6 또 내가 크고 흰 보좌와 그 위에 앉으신 자를 보니 땅과 하늘이 그 앞에서 피하여 간데 없더라.
7 보좌에 앉으신 이가 가라사대‘ 보라 내가 만물을 새롭게 하노라.’ 하시고….”
8 “또 보매 다른 천사가 살아계신 하나님의 인(印)을 가지고 해 돋는 데로부터 올라와서 땅과 바다를 해롭게 할 권세를 얻은 네 천사를 향하여 큰 소리로 외쳐 가로되
9 우리가 우리 하나님의 종들의 이마에 인(印)치기까지 땅이나 바다나 나무나 해하지 말라 하더라.” 하니라.
10 백보좌 하느님께서 요한에게 계시하여 말씀하시기를 “나는 알파요 오메가라. 이제도 있고 전에도 있었고, 장차 올 자요 전능한 자라.” 하시니라.
11 이는 곧 지상에 아버지가 몸소 강세하심으로써 예전의 하늘과 땅을 문닫고 새 하늘, 새 땅을 건설하시는 ‘땅 위의 천국’ 소식이로다

Maitreya Buddha, God the Father, God on the great white throne, Okhwang—Sangjenim—who are they? They are one in the same: Jeung-san Sangjenim. Peoples and cultures differ from one another, and so their expressions for God naturally differ; yet, they are referring to the same God. They are essentially referring to God who incarnates into the world in the era of ‘metal-fire interchange,’ when the seeds of humanity are harvested, to bring forth a new age by way of a new culture.
미륵부처님, 아버지 하나님, 백보좌 하나님, 옥황상제님, 그 분이 누구냐 하면 바로 증산 상제님이시다. 사람과 문화권이 각각 다르기 때문에 그 표현은 다를지언정 다 같은 말을 한 것이다. 그게 다 금화교역기, 사람 씨종자를 추리는 때에 상제님께서 이 세상에 강세하시어 새 문화권으로 새 시대를 연다는 것이다. (태상종도사님 말씀)

A Work of Renewal Concerning Scientific Advancements, Which Originated from Heaven *Dojeon 5:255

1 At this time, Sangjenim said to Cha Gyeong-seok, “You have always obeyed My words, but in today’s work of renewal, I shall follow yours. I will now ask you questions—ponder them carefully before answering.” 2 Sangjenim then posed the question, “Which would be correct: to leave intact all the advancements invented by Westerners, or to withdraw them?”

3 “It will benefit humanity if You leave them intact,” Gyeong-seok answered.
4 “You are right,” said Sangjenim. “Those advancements originated from heaven.”

천상 과학문명 지상 이식 공사

1 이때 경석에게 말씀하시기를 “전날에는 네가 나의 말을 좇았거니와 이 공사에는 내가 네 말을 좇으리니 모든 일을 묻는 대로 잘 생각하여 대답하라.” 하시고
2 물으시기를 “서양 사람이 발명한 모든 문명 이기(利器)를 그대로 두어야 옳겠느냐, 거두어 버려야 옳겠느냐?” 하시니
3 경석이 대답하기를 “그대로 두는 것이 인간 생활에 이로울 듯합니다.” 하니라.
4 이에 상제님께서 말씀하시기를 “네 말이 옳으니 그들의 문명이기는 하늘로부터 내려온 것이니라.” 하시니라.

Matteo Ricci, a Westerner, came to the East and offered many ways to build a heaven on earth, but his vision never came to pass, because he could not correct all the corrupt practices that had become entrenched over the ages. (…) After his death, Matteo Ricci led preeminent spirits of civilizations in the East to the West and again sought to build a heaven on earth. From that time forth, the spirits of earth began ascending to heaven to learn its marvelous ways and then returning to earth to breathe inspiration into people. It is this that fostered the advancement of scholarship and the development of complex machines, enabling humanity to model its civilization after that of heaven and hence raise up modern civilization.
서양사람 이마두가 동양에 와서 천국을 건설하려고 여러 가지 계획을 내었으나 쉽게 모든 적폐(積弊)를 고쳐 이상을 실현하기 어려우므로 마침내 뜻을 이루지 못하고 (중략) 그가 죽은 뒤에는 동양의 문명신(文明神)을 거느리고 서양으로 돌아가서 다시 천국을 건설하려 하였나니 이로부터 지하신(地下神)이 천상에 올라가 모든 기묘한 법을 받아 내려 사람에게 ‘알음귀’를 열어 주어 세상의 모든 학술과 정교한 기계를 발명케 하여 천국의 모형을 본떴나니 이것이 바로 현대의 문명이라. (상제님 말씀)

In humanity’s history, there have been many saints and sages. Among all of them, Yi Ma-du—the Catholic priest Matteo Ricci—made the greatest contribution to the world.
인류 역사를 볼 때 많은 성자들이 있었지만 그 가운데에서 이마두(利瑪竇), 즉 마테오 리치 신부는 지나간 세상 성자들 중에 인간 세상을 위해 쌓은 공덕이 가장 큰 분이다. (태상종도사님 말씀)

The Age of Sages *Dojeon 2:16

6 “The Early Heaven has been an age of conquerors in which sin has been the way of life, but the Later Heaven shall be an age of sages in which benevolence shall be the way of life. 7 Solemnity prevailed in the Early Heaven, but laughter shall prevail in the Later Heaven.

8 “Our work is the practice of helping others flourish. After others prosper, we need only to take what remains and our work will be accomplished. 9 Jeon Myeong-suk attempted a revolution to transform commoners into nobles, and for this he was rewarded in the afterlife with the glory of becoming the Great King of the Joseon Myeongbu(The Court of Judgment in the Hereafter).”

선으로 사는 후천 성인시대

6 선천 영웅시대에는 죄로써 먹고 살았으나, 후천 성인시대에는 선으로 먹고살게 하리라.
7 선천은 위엄으로 살았으나 후천세상에는 웃음으로 살게 하리라.
8 우리 일은 남 잘되게 하는 공부니 남이 잘되고 남은 것만 차지하여도 우리 일은 되느니라.
9 전명숙(全明淑)이 거사할 때에 상놈을 양반 만들어 주려는 마음을 두었으므로 죽어서 잘되어 조선 명부대왕이 되었느니라.

The message that Jeung San Do intends to convey to the public is this: ‘The cosmic season is giving way to autumn. The Autumn Gaebyeok is coming. Jeung San Do is a truth which aims to save people by spreading across the world the dao of Gang Jeung-san Sangjenim, who incarnated as a human at this time of the age of the Autumn Gaebyeok. At the time of the Autumn Gaebyeok, when all are faced with inevitable death, what must be done to save others and oneself?’ This is the core message of Jeung San Do’s teachings, which are uniquely different from all the religions and philosophies of the past. Therefore, Jeung San Do can be considered ‘a truth that transcends religion.’
증산도가 세상 사람들에게 전하려는 메시지는 ‘천지의 가을철이 다가온다. 가을개벽이 다가온다. 개벽을 앞두고 인간으로 오신 강증산 상제님의 도법道法, 곧 증산도 진리를 세상에 널리 전해서 한 사람이라도 더 살려내라. 가을개벽을 모르는 사람들에게 전해 많이 살려내라’는 것이다. ‘우주천지의 가을철, 모두가 죽을 수밖에 없는 가을 개벽기에 과연 무엇을 어떻게 해야 남을 살리고 자기도 사는가?’ 이것이 증산도의 핵심 진리인데 그것은 어떤 기성 종교나 철학과도 비교할 수 없는, 종교를 넘어서는 큰 진리이다. (종도사님 말씀)
