Brandon: There’s a question that I’ve been wanting to ask.
내가 계속 물어보고 싶었던 질문이 하나 있어.

I: What’s that?
그게 뭔데?

Brandon: I'll tell you but you’re not gonna be teasing me even if it’s a totally simple question, Okay? Well, I've been curious about who’s got more powerful authority between Sangjenim and Taemonim.
쉬운 질문이라고 나 놀리기 없기다, 알았지? 음... 상제님이랑 태모님 두 분 중에서 어느 분이 더 큰 권능을 갖고 계신지가 궁금했거든.

I: What kind of question... (Trying to calm down himself) (Sigh)... I’ll give you a hint. Sangjenim is the God who opens the Later Heaven’s paradise of equal yin and yang. Focus on the main point here, “equal yin and yang,” and you’ll probably able to come up with the answer.

Brandon: Equal yin and yang? So They do have the same level of divine power and authority?
정음정양? 아버지와 어머니의 신력과 권능은 같다?

I: Correct! Honestly speaking, I was also a little confused about this topic when I was first initiated, but everything became so clear to me when I listened to Jongdosanim’s lecture.
맞아! 솔직히 말해서 나도 입도 초기에는 그게 좀 헷갈렸었거든. 그러다가 종도사님 도훈을 듣고는 다 명확해졌지.

Brandon: What did he say?
종도사님께서 어떤 말씀을 하셨는데?

I: He said this on the grand chiseong commemorating Taemonim’s ascension a couple of years ago. He taught us, “Taemonim is equal to Sangjenim. She is God the Mother who has an equal amount of virtue of life when compared to God the Father. As God the Mother, She started a new paradigm in the history of human salvation.”
몇 년 전에 태모님 선화대치성 때 하신 말씀인데 이렇게 말씀하셨어. “태모님은 상제님과 동격인 분입니다. 아버지 하나님과 동등한 생명의 덕성을 가지고 계신 어머니 하나님입니다. 태모님은 어머니 하나님으로서 인간 구원의 새 역사를 시작하셨습니다.”

Brandon: She started a new paradigm in the history of human salvation? I thought Sangjenim already saved humanity.
어머니 하나님으로서 인간 구원의 새 역사를 시작하셨다고? 인류 구원은 상제님이 이미 하셨던 거 아냐?

I: Yep. Let me explain what he means. Two years after Sangjenim ascended to heaven, Taemonim meditated for 49 days at the Seven Stars Shrine of Daewonsa Temple, and again for 100 days at a disciple’s house. By doing so, She became omniscient about all affairs in the three realms. And a few months later, Taemonim attained the ultimate enlightenment being inspired by Sangjenim’s holy spirit and from then on, She started to wield the divine power at will. And with that power She performed 10 years of work of renewal as well as taking on the program of the Three Households.
응. 종도사님 말씀에 대해서 내가 설명해줄게. 상제님이 어천하시고 2년 후에 수부님께서도 대원사 칠성각에서 49일간, 그리고 다시 한 성도의 집에서 100일간 수행하셨는데 그때 삼계三界의 이치에 활연대각하셨다고 해. 그리고 몇 달 후에 상제님으로부터 성령을 받고 대도통을 하셨어. 그 이후로 태모님께서도 자유자재로 조화권을 쓰셨어. 그 화권으로 10년 천지공사를 보셨고 또 세 살림 도수를 맡으셨거든.

Brandon: So, Taemonim performed the work of renewal just like Sangnjenim! I remember several stories of Taemonim where She performed miracles like making the moon disappear and appear again by waving Her tobacco pipe, or relocating a mountain in a far distance to the neighborhood.
태모님께서 상제님처럼 천지공사를 보셨구나~ 그러고 보니 태모님께서도 담뱃대로 달을 사라졌다가 다시 나오게 하셨다든지, 아니면 먼 곳에 있는 산을 동네로 옮겨 오고 그렇게 하신 도전 이야기들이 생각나네.

I: And you know what She first said to the disciples after She attained the enlightenment?
근데, 태모님께서 대도통을 하시고 나서 제일 먼저 하신 말씀이 뭐였는지 알아?

Brandon: Well... “Cultivate and purify yourself with one mind?”
음... “일심으로 수행하라?”

I: Good answer but incorrect! Taemonim said to the disciple Cha Gyeong-seok who was sitting next to her, surprisingly with the voice of Sangjenim, “I shall assume the sowing of the seeds; you shall assume the transplanting of the seedlings. There will be another who will undertake the harvest,” which was gonna be one of the most important proclamations She made.
좋은 대답이긴 한데 정답은 아니야. 태모님께서는 놀랍게도 상제님의 성음으로 옆에 있던 차경석 성도에게 이렇게 말씀하셨어. “나는 낙종落種 물을 맡으리니 그대는 이종移種 물을 맡으라. 추수秋收할 사람은 다시 있느니라.”라고 말이야. 태모님께서 선언하신 중요한 말씀들 중 하나지.

Brandon: Wow... Taemonim announced something of great importance in Sangjenim’s voice?
와... 태모님께서 뭔가 엄청 중요한 말씀을 상제님의 성음으로 얘기하셨다고?

I: Yep. In my opinion, Sangjenim’s holy spirit inspired Taemonim at the moment and that was kind of a co-announcement proclaimed by Sangjenim and Taemonim together.
응. 그 순간 상제님의 성령이 태모님께 임어하셔서 두 분이 함께 공동 선언을 하신 게 아닌가 싶어.

Brandon: So you mean that Taemonim took on the role of sowing the seeds of Sangjenim’s teachings, and Cha Gyeong-seok was assigned to the work of spreading the teachings, right? Cha Gyeong-seok was the head of Bocheongyo that attracted about 6 million followers at the time. You mentioned this last time.
그러니까 태모님께서는 상제님 진리의 씨앗을 뿌리는 일을 맡으셨고, 차경석 성도는 가르침을 퍼뜨리는 사명을 맡았다는 거지? 차경석 성도님은 전에 네가 언급했던, 6백만 신도를 모았던 보천교의 교주였잖아.

I: Right. But the point is, it was Taemonim who summoned and gathered the disciples who were wandering in despair after Sangjenim’s ascension. And then She founded the first movement, which is described in the Dojeon as “sowing the seeds.” And Cha Gyeong-seok spread Sangjenim and Taemonim’s teachings and the Taeeulju Mantra throughout the country under the name of Bocheongyo, which is known as the “transplanting the seedlings.”
맞아. 상제님 어천 이후에 절망해서 방황하던 성도들을 다시 모은 분이 태모님이셨고 제1변을 일으키신 분도 태모님이셔. 도전에는 “낙종落種”이라고 되어 있지. 차경석 성도님은 상제님, 태모님의 말씀과 태을주를 보천교라는 이름으로 전국에 널리 알리셨는데 그게 바로 “이종移種”이라고 알려진 부분이야.

Brandon: Ah ha. It’s starting to make sense a little more. Then what does “...another who will undertake the harvest,” mean?
아~ 이제 좀 더 이해가 돼. 그럼 추수할 사람은 다시 있다고 하셨는데, 그 말씀은 무슨 뜻이야?

I: Think about the meaning of the word “harvest.” It’s collecting matured crops, so you can say that it’s the last stage of farming, so to speak, the “completion.”
“추수”라는 말의 뜻을 한번 생각해봐. 추수는 다 익은 곡식들을 거두는 거잖아. 농사의 최종 단계이면서 한마디로 “완성”이지.

Brandon: Hey, wait a minute. Think I’ve realized something! It’s really simple but very important.
아, 잠깐만! 간단하지만 되게 중요한 뭔가를 내가 깨달은 것 같아!

I: And that is?
그게 뭔데?

Brandon: “Another who will undertake the harvest” is referring to His Holiness the Taesang Jongdosanim and Jongdosanim. Yeah, it has to be. They established Jeung San Do and Jongdosanim is still doing everything to actualize the work of renewal of Sangjenim and Taemonim!
“추수할 사람”은 태상종도사님과 종도사님이신 거였어. 맞아, 당연히 그래야지. 두 분께서 증산도 도문을 여셨고 종도사님께서는 지금도 상제님과 태모님의 천지공사를 현실화시키기 위해 모든 일을 하고 계시잖아!

I: You exceeded my expectations this time, Brandon. There’s a passage in the Dojeon that we can refer to about that. Sangjenim once said to His disciples “Two people have not yet arrived, so I cannot yet go forth.” And Taemonim also said to one of Her disciples, “In the future, certain persons shall come forth—welcome them by raising a dragon and phoenix flag,” mentioning the two persons who will harvest the fruit of Sangjenim and Taemonim’s holy work!
너 이번에는 내 기대를 뛰어넘었는데, 브랜든? 도전에 보면 그 내용이 나와 있어. 상제님께서는 성도들에게 “사람 둘이 없으므로 나서지 못한다.”고 하셨어. 태모님께서도 한 종도에게 “일후에 사람이 나면 용봉기를 꽂아 놓고 잘 맞이해야 하느니라.”고 하시면서, 상제님과 태모님 두 분의 성업을 완수할 두 사람에 대해 말씀하셨거든.

Brandon: Thinking about the path and every single remark that Sangjenim and Taemonim made, I can’t help but to be in awe at Their elaborate work of renewal with no mistakes or flaws.
상제님과 태모님 두 분이 걸으신 길과 모든 말씀을 떠올려보면 정말 빈틈이 하나도 없는 정교한 천지공사에 놀라지 않을 수가 없어..

I: Same here. And you know what? The ones who have to realize Their dreams in reality are Sangjenim and Taemonim’s workers like us. People like you and I.
