Brandon: I have a question. Sangjenim said in the Dojeon, “My world will be the world of creation-transformation, for it will be the world in which spirits and humans become one.” I can’t understand the meaning of spirits and humans becoming one.
질문이 하나 있어. 도전에는 상제님께서 “내 세상은 조화의 세계요, 신명과 인간이 하나 되는 세계니라.”라는 말씀이 있잖아. 신명과 인간이 하나 된다는 의미를 이해하지 못하겠어.

I: Ah, that probably means that humans and spirits will live amongst each other and freely communicate with each other unlike the Early Heaven. Jongdosanim taught us that, “Human beings will evolve into living holy spirits of creation-transformation ourselves and be able to freely interact with all existence in the universe. The world of a highly advanced spiritual culture will be built in the Later Heaven.”
아, 그 말씀은 아마도 선천과는 달리 인간과 신명이 서로 자유롭게 의사소통을 하게 된다는 뜻일 거야. 종도사님께서는 “인간이 살아 있는 조화성신 자체가 되어 온 우주와 교감하며 만물의 신성과 대화하는 고도의 영성문화가 후천에 열리게 된다.”고 말씀하셨어.

Brandon: We’re becoming living holy spirits?
우리가 살아 있는 조화 성신이 된다고?

I: Yeah. Jongdosanim said, “In order for us to become a Tae-il, we have to be granted the life energy of creation-transformation of the heaven and earth and fully manifest the divine potential that rests within us. And the Taeeulju Mantra meditation is the key that allows us to receive and accumulate in our bodies the vital water energy of the universe known as the ‘Taegeuksu.’”
응. 종도사님은 이렇게 말씀해주셨어. “인간이 진정한 태일(太一)이 되려면 천지의 조화생명을 받아내려, 자기 안에 내주(內住)한 신성을 온전히 다 발현시켜야 한다. 그 길이 바로 우주의 조화 생명수인 태극수(太極水)의 기운을 내 몸에 축적시키는 태을주 수행에 있다.”

Brandon: So, in other words, #we can actualize our divine potential through practicing the Taeeulju Mantra meditation# and that’s made possible by getting the water energy of creation-transformation called the Taegeuksu, right? Then, will I be able to talk to spirits?
그러니까, 태을주를 많이 읽어서 우주의 조화 생명수를 내 몸에 내려 받아 신성을 여는 거네? 그러면 나도 신명들과 의사소통하는 수준이 될 수 있는 거야?

I: You are in for a treat, pal. Sangjenim told us that the Later Heaven will be the world in which the dao mastery is commonly practiced among people. It’s true that our smart phones, computers, and various technologies including DNA technology replicating human cells are at an astoundingly remarkable level, but we experience the convenience that they bring only through relying on these mechanical devices. In the Later Heaven, a new civilization will begin and it will allow people to do everything and anything they want at will, without having to borrow the power of the machines.
친구야, 이 얘긴 너도 정말 좋아할 건데, 상제님께서는 후천은 도술문화시대라고 하셨어. 지금 우리가 쓰는 핸드폰이나 컴퓨터, 인간의 DNA를 복제하는 과학기술 같은 것도 엄청난 수준인 건 맞지만 다 기계를 통해서 하는 거거든. 하지만 나중에 후천이 되면 인간이 기계의 힘을 빌리지 않고도 모든 것을 뜻대로 할 수 있는 문명이 열려.

Brandon: Wow, what you said just made me think of the superheroes in the Marvel superhero movies or Harry Potter movies! All of the main characters in there are people with superpowers!
와, 네 말 들으니까 마블 영화에 나오는 수퍼히어로들이나 해리포터 시리즈가 생각난다! 거기 나오는 주인공들이 모두 초능력을 가진 사람들이잖아.

I: I myself can’t even imagine what we will become and how our lives will change if our divinity is fully developed. The parables in the Dojeon about the Later Heaven are all talking about the civilization that is beyond the limits of science.
나도 내가 지닌 신성이 온전히 발현되면 내가 어떤 모습이 되고 또 내 삶이 어떻게 바뀔지... 상상이 쉽게 안 돼. 도전 성구에 표현된 후천의 모습은 정말 과학을 초월한 극치의 문명을 얘기하고 있거든.

Brandon: If it becomes the Later Heaven, will everybody enlighten enough to understand there’s no point in war or hate among each other? Just that itself will make me satisfied.
나는 후천이 되면 모든 사람들이 더 이상 전쟁이나 사람들 간의 미움이 아무 의미 없다는 걸 깨달을 정도의 도통을 했으면 좋겠어. 그것만 해도 좋을 거 같아~

I: Well, Taemonim’s words in the Dojeon read, “The Later Heaven will be the time of great dao mastery through the knowing of people’s mind.” So you can read people’s mind even when you haven’t spoken a word to them. And that may make it impossible for one to deceive another or hate them.
도전에 보면 태모님께서 “후천은 지심대도술(知心大道術) 시대”라고 말씀하신 게 나오거든. 그러니까 서로가 말하지 않아도 서로의 마음이 다 보이니까, 아예 상대방을 속이거나 미워하는 것 자체가 불가능한 세상이 될 수도 있을 거 같아.

Brandon: Oh my. Then, I shouldn’t be thinking anything bad in the Later Heaven, ’cause I could be in jail if I got caught.
와... 그럼 나 속으로 나쁜 생각하면 안 되는 거겠네? 들켜서 감옥갈 수도 있겠다..ㅎㅎㅎ

I: I’d imagine immoral or wicked thoughts probably won't arise in our hearts. We would become more spiritually awakened through meditation, and of course, the environment on Earth will change in its entirety.
부도덕적이고 악한 생각 자체가 마음에서 일어나지 않는다고 생각해. 수행을 통해 영적으로 완전히 거듭난 인간이 되었기 때문에, 또 우리가 사는 환경 자체도 완전히 바뀔 테니까.

Brandon: How?
어떻게?

I: Well, His Holiness the Taesang Jongdosanim explained the ‘how’ quite often. He said, “In the coming world, the earth’s orbit around the sun will shift from an ellipse to a perfect circle.” After the axis’ shift, one year will count as 360 days, and the weather will turn mild and balanced all year round.
태상종도사님께서 그 ‘어떻게’를 많이 말씀하셨어. “앞으로 다가오는 세상에는 계란형의 지구가 정원형, 공 같은 형으로 궤도수정을 한다.”고 하셨잖아. 지구의 자전축이 바로 서면서 일 년도 360일이 되고 1년 사시사철이 고른 기후가 되지.

Brandon: The world of the cosmic autumn sounds like a world worth living according to your saying. I should chant the Taeeulju Mantra more.
네 말을 듣고 보니 우주가을 세상은 참 살아볼 만한 곳 같아! 태을주를 더 열심히 읽어야겠어!

I: But you know what, Brandon? #Just because you meditate a lot, it doesn't mean that you’re guaranteed to live a good life in the Later Heaven.# You have to make contribution in the work of spreading Sangjenim’s teachings to the world. All of your contributions combined with your inner capacity will be measured up to decide which level of enlightenment you deserve.
그런데 브랜든. 혹시 그건 알고 있어? 단지 수행을 많이 한다고 후천에서 잘 사는 게 아니라, 상제님 도를 세상에 펴는 일에 공덕을 많이 쌓아야 해. 너의 심법과 네가 쌓은 공덕을 함께 감안해서 너에게 맞는 도통이 열리게 돼.

Brandon: Ah... Got it. #It would be too easy if we just had to meditate to get everything we want in the Later Heaven.# I didn’t realize I had to study and convey the truth.
아...그렇구나. 수도만 해서 후천에 하고 싶은 걸 다 한다고 하면 그건 너무 쉬운 거겠지... 진리를 배워서 전해야 하는 거구나.

I: And, you should keep in mind that knowing a lot about the teachings doesn’t always mean that you’ll be good at conveying the truth. Yes, we must learn about Sangjenim’s truth properly and convey it properly. But on top of that, we should maintain sincerity in our heart while offering prayers and chanting the mantras. To successfully convey the truth, that is.}}
진리를 많이 안다고 꼭 포교를 잘 하는 건 아니라는 걸 기억해야 돼. 진리를 바르게 알고 바르게 전해야 하지만 평상시에 기도하고 수행할 때도 정성스러운 마음을 유지해야 하더라고. 성공적인 포교가 되려면 말이야.

Brandon: OK... So in the end, it’s all about sincerity. It's a long journey to be a “righteous and sincere seeker.” You know, from the Prayer from the Heart.
아.. 결국엔 정성이구나. 정성. 심고문에 나오는 ‘진실한 참도인’이 되기 위해서 난 갈 길이 멀구나~

I: I’m sure we’ll all be there someday, my friend. Slowly but surely.

If we were sincere and determined just like the Venerable Jin-pyo, we could be enlightened in no time.
우리가 진표대성사처럼 정성스럽고 결연한 의지가 있다면 당장에라도 도통할 텐데.

If you did indeed possess both the capacity and compassion to conduct the work of heaven and earth, could you simply sit, watch, and do nothing?
그대가 만일 도략과 자비가 있다면 어찌 가만히 앉아서 볼 때리오. (상제님 말씀, 도전 5:106:15)
