Sangjenim: Great Teacher, Father of All *DOJEON 3:1

1 Jeung-san Sangjenim—the Lord of Heaven and Earth incarnate, He who came to this world as a human—is God of the New Heaven, who brings to pass the Later Heaven’s Paradise of Immortality.
2 Sangjenim opened heaven and earth’s great gate of the spirit realm on July 7, 1901 (DG 31), at Daewonsa Temple of Moaksan Mountain 3 and thereafter wielded His supreme authority over the three realms to usher in the Later Heaven, for Sangjenim is the Lord of Creation-Transformation in Heaven’s Golden Palace, God on the White Throne.
4 Sangjenim is the Father of All Life; He is the Great Teacher; and He is the Sovereign Ruler of heaven and earth and all existence, and of humanity and the spirit realm.

1 증산 상제님은 인간으로 강세하신 인존천주(人尊天主)이시니 후천선경을 개벽하신 새 하늘의 하느님이시니라.
2 상제님께서 신축(辛丑： 道紀 31, 1901)년 7월 7일 모악산 대원사에 천지대신문을 여시고
3 삼계대권을 주재하여 후천을 개벽하시니 호천금궐(昊天金闕)의 조화주시요 백보좌(白寶座) 하느님이시니라.

상제님 진리는 군사부(君師父) 진리다. 상제님 진리로써 후천 새 세상이 개창된다고 할 것 같으면 상제님은 당연히 군주다. 그러면 생아자(生我者)도 부모요 양아자(養我者)도 부모로, 나를 낳아준 것도 부모지만 천지에서 개벽하는데 살려준 것도 부모 아닌가? 낳기는 저희 부모가 낳았어도 개벽하는데 살려준 분은 상제님이니 상제님도 부모란 말이다. 또 상제님 진리를 믿으니까 상제님은 사부 아닌가? (태상종도사님)
Sangjenim’s truth is the truth in which sovereign, parent, and teacher become one. Since the new world of the Later Heaven will be founded upon Sangjenim’s truth, He will be its sovereign. Moreover, a parent is the one who gives birth, and a parent is also the one who nurtures. In other words, the person who gave you life is your parent. But is it not true that the person who saves you at the time of gaebyeok is your parent as well? Your parents gave you life. But during the time of gaebyeok, Sangjenim will save you. Thus, He is your parent as well. Finally, since you believe in Sangjenim’s truth, is He not also your teacher?

2주의 말씀 : 용봉도수

The Dao Lineage and Authority of True Dharma *DOJEON 6:1

8 Sangjenim corrects the Geon and Gon of the oppressed yin and revered yang of the Early Heaven and brings forth the world of the Later Heaven of equal yin and yang.
9 Sangjenim conferred His dao lineage and authority upon Subunim, thereby firmly planting the root of the Supreme Dao of Mugeuk. 10 He ordained that the Supreme Dao of Mugeuk would reach fruition through the Sun and Moon, Dragon and Phoenix Dosu, which is founded upon Taegeuk and Hwanggeuk, the impellers of water and fire’s qi of creation-transformation. 11 Sangjenim undertook these measures to inaugurate the destiny of the dao—the destiny of true dharma—which shall bring to pass a reign of dao governance of the new heaven and earth.

8 상제님께서 선천 억음존양의 건곤을 바로잡아 음양동덕(陰陽同德)의 후천 세계를 개벽하시니라.
9 이에 수부(首婦)님께 도통(道統)을 전하시어 무극대도를 뿌리내리시고

무극대도無極大道 Supreme Dao of Mugeuk
일월용봉도수日月龍鳳度數 Sun and Moon, Dragon and Phoenix Dosu

Mugeuk (Wuji or Wu-chi) : Mugeuk is often translated as “Non-Ultimate,” “Without Ultimate” or “the Boundless,” as it has no boundaries within and no limitations without. Mugeuk is the primal source of dao.
무극無極 : 무극은 영어로 “Non-Ultimate”(극이 아님), “Without Ultimate”(극이 없음), “the Boundless”(무한함) 등으로 번역된다. 무극은 도의 원초적 근원이다.

Taegeuk (Taiji or T’ai-chi) : Taegeuk is commonly translated as “Great Ultimate,” “Supreme Ultimate,” or “Supreme Pole.” Taegeuk is the fundamental substance of all existence. All change and existence arise from Taegeuk.
태극太極 :태극은 영어로 “Great Ultimate”(큰 극), “Supreme”(최고의 극), 또는 “Supreme Pole”(최고의 극) 등으로 번역된다. 태극은 만물의 근원적 본체다. 태극을 통해 만물의 변화와 생성이 이루어진다.

Hwanggeuk (Huangji) : Hwanggeuk is the driving force of birth and growth in all things. Applied to human affairs, Hwanggeuk signifies an emperor or king who rules on behalf of heaven. The term is commonly translated as “Imperial Ultimate.”
황극皇極 : 황극은 만물을 낳아 기르는 생장生長 운동의 본체다. 인사에서 황극은 하늘을 대행하는 통치자를 말한다. 황극은 영어로 “Imperial Ultimate”(제왕의 극)으로 번역된다.

The Destiny of Mutual Conflict and Domination (Sanggeuk) in the Early Heaven *DOJEON 2:13

4 “The Early Heaven is the time of the destiny of mutual conflict and domination. 5 The principle of mutual conflict and domination has governed all humans and all existence, and so heaven and earth have never known a single moment free of war. 6 Therefore, bitterness and grief now fills all the world. 7 As I now set out to bring the destiny of mutual conflict and domination to an end, colossal catastrophes threaten to erupt all at once, annihilating the human world. 8 If all the bitterness and grief born of mutual conflict and domination were allowed to explode, the universe itself would collapse into ruin.

선천은 상극의 운

4 선천은 상극(相克)의 운(運)이라
5 상극의 이치가 인간과 만물을 맡아 하늘과 땅에 전란(戰亂)이 그칠 새 없었나니
6 그러므로 천하를 원한으로 가득 채우므로
7 이제 이 상극의 운을 끝맺으려 하매 큰 화액(禍厄)이 함께 일어나서 인간세상이 멸망당하게 되었느니라.
8 상극의 원한이 폭발하면 우주도 무너져 내리느니라.

mutual conflict and domination(sanggeuk) : Mutual conflict and domination is a natural dynamic of competition and division that serves as a catalyst in creating and advancing life. In terms of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) in Eastern philosophy, mutual conflict and domination is a natural dynamic in which one element restrains another (i.e., wood restrains earth, earth restrains water, water restrains fire, fire restrains metal, and metal restrains wood). In the context of the cosmic year, mutual conflict and domination is the prevailing dynamic of the Early Heaven. In terms of human relations, mutual conflict and domination describes a process of growth through conflict and competition. (영어 『도전』 주석)

상극相克 : 상극은 우주가 대립과 분열을 통해 생명을 낳아 기르는 힘이다. 동양철학의 오행원리에서 상극은 우주의 구성 원소들 간에 서로를 극하는 자연의 원리를 말한다(목극토木克土, 토극수土克水, 수극화水克火, 화극금火克金, 금극목金克木). 또한 상극은 우주1년에서는 선천을 지배하는 원리를 말하며, 인사에서는 갈등과 경쟁을 통한 성장과정을 말한다.

A Mysterious Disease Will Strike the World *DOJEON 7:24

1 “Being superior by a single move brings victory in the game of baduk, so devote yourself to the practice that is unknown to others.
2 “Since the Early Heaven Gaebyeok, floods, droughts, and wars have ceaselessly ravaged the world, but there has yet to be a truly catastrophic disease. 3 Such a disease will strike the entire world in the coming times and annihilate the human race, allowing no means of survival; 4 therefore, abandon the world’s celebrated endeavors and paths and instead understand uitong, though it may seem insignificant.
5 “Since the beginning of the Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth, I have defeated all the colossal catastrophes looming over this world, 6 but I have left intact the catastrophic disease, for which I shall grant you uitong.

괴질병이 전 지구를 엄습한다

1 바둑도 한 수만 높으면 이기나니, 남모르는 공부를 하여 두라.
2 선천개벽 이후로 홍수와 가뭄과 전쟁의 겁재(劫災)가 서로 번갈아서 그칠 새 없이 세상을 진탕하였으나 아직 병겁은 크게 없었나니 3 이 뒤에는 병겁이 전세계를 엄습하여 인류를 전멸케 하되 살아날 방법을 얻어 내지 못할 것이라. 4 그러므로 모든 기사묘법(奇事妙法)을 다 버리고 오직 비열한 듯한 의통(醫統)을 알아 두라.
5 내가 천지공사를 맡아봄으로부터 이 땅위에 있는 모든 큰 겁재를 물리쳤 으나 6 오직 병겁만은 그대로 두고 너희들에게 의통을 붙여 주리라.

의통醫統 uitong (‘salvation and unification through healing’)
병겁病劫 catastrophic disease
3년 병겁 three-year tribulation of the mysterious disease

uitong :
Conceptually, uitong signifies two essential themes: first, enlightenment into healing; second, the salvation and unification of the world through healing during the three-year tribulation of the mysterious disease of the Autumn Gaebyeok. Physically, uitong is comprised of three implements, based on the Taeeulju Mantra. The two essential themes of uitong underlie the Dosu of the Center for the Healing and Saving of All Nations, regarding which Sangjenim proclaimed, “It is not enough to heal illnesses in a single region; you must heal all illnesses across the world. It is not enough to heal the illnesses of a single era; you must heal all the world’s illnesses across all time” (5:132:12-13). This dosu will unfold through the Dynamic Meditation Dosu and will ultimately come to completion by saving and uniting humanity through the implementation of uitong at the time of the mysterious disease. 의통醫統 :
의통에는 두 가지 개념이 있다. 첫째 살리는 것(醫)에 도통(通)한다는 것이고, 둘째 다가오는 우주 가을개벽의 3년 병겁에서 사람을 살려 세상을 구원하고 통일(統一)한다는 것이다. 의통은 태을주를 바탕으로 한 유형의 세 가지 도구로 이루어져 있다. 의통의 두 가지 개념은 만국의원도수의 기저가 된다. 상제님께서는 만국의원공사를 보실 때, “한 지방의 병만을 막아도 아니 될 것이요, 온 세상의 병을 다 고쳐야 하리라. 또 한 때의 병만을 막아도 아니 될 것이요, 천하 만세의 병을 다 고쳐야 하리니...” 라고 선언하셨다. 이 만국의원도수는 도공도수를 통해 펼쳐지고, 장차 병란이 닥칠 때 의통으로 인류를 살리고 통일함으로써 마침내 실현될 것이다.
