112 “Any mantra is powerful if you chant it with faith. 2 A maiden who grieved over her lost chance at marriage visited an elderly neighborhood couple who were meditators and asked them for a mantra, intending to cultivate herself. 3 But the elderly couple had recently been quarreling and were still very agitated, so the husband simply replied, ‘Don’t like anything.’

4 “The maiden mistook this answer for a mantra and chanted it ceaselessly, even while sitting and lying down. This annoyed her family. 5 One day, she was chanting as she bore a large jar of water on her head, and her exasperated father struck the jar with a flail. But though the jar fell onto a rock, it did not break and none of its water spilled.”

112 하루는 상제님께서“ 주문呪文은 무슨 주문이든지 믿고만 읽으면 좋으니라.” 하시며 말씀하시기를 2“ 혼기를 잃어 한이 된 어떤 처녀가 도나 닦으려고 이웃에 수도하는 노부처老夫妻를 찾아가 주문을 물으니 3 때마침 노부부는 서로 다투던 뒤라서 심사가 불안하여 귀찮은 마음에서‘ 아무것도 싫다’고 대답하였더니 4 처녀가 이를 주문으로 알고 앉으나 누우나 쉬지 않고 열성으로 읽으니 온 식구가 싫어하였느니라.

5 하루는 그 말을 외우면서 물동이를 이고 오는데 그 아버지가 보리타작 하던 도리깨로 이고 오는 물동이를 쳐서 돌 위에 넘어졌으나 동이도 성하고 물도 쏟아지지 않았느니라.” 하시니라.
